The GSDC Career Guidance Unit is a dedicated initiative aimed at supporting individuals who have not successfully passed their exams by providing them with alternative career pathways, skills development, and vocational opportunities. Recognizing that academic setbacks should not define a person’s future, the unit empowers individuals with the guidance and resources needed to build fulfilling careers.

Dr. Charith Giragama
Head of Career Guidance Unit
Dr. Charith Giragama is a dedicated mentor and educator, serving as the Head of Career Guidance at GSDC on a voluntary basis. In this role, he provides invaluable support to individuals who have not successfully passed their exams, helping them explore alternative career paths and opportunities. His commitment to career development reflects his passion for empowering individuals with the guidance and skills needed to overcome challenges and build meaningful careers.
Dr. Giragama began his educational journey in 1976 at Vijaya College, Matale, before transitioning to St. Thomas College, Matale, in 1982. He achieved a significant academic milestone by earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, and Statistics from the University of Colombo, Faculty of Science. During his undergraduate years, he was an active member of the student council, demonstrating his leadership and commitment to academic excellence.

Pursuing his passion for Computer Science, he furthered his education at the University of Aizu in Japan, where he obtained both a Master’s degree (MSc) and a Doctorate (PhD) in Computer Science and Engineering, specializing in Artificial Intelligence.
With over two decades of professional experience in Computer Science and Information Technology, Dr. Giragama has made substantial contributions to the industry. His extensive expertise, combined with his dedication to general career guidance, continues to positively impact many individuals, helping them navigate their futures despite academic setbacks.
